   An Integrated Water Plan
Examples of Local Projects and New Technologies

Well
Well heads like the North Las Posas well head in Calleguas MWD are used to inject water into the ground for future storage in the conjunctive use program.

Desal
Advanced membrane technology like these reverse osmosis filters are used to treat wastewater for beneficial use, resulting in near-distilled quality water at the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System.

Rio Honda
Spreading Basins like the Rio Hondo desilting pond in Central Basin MWD are used to replenish our groundwater basins.

The goal of the IRP is to outline a strategy for water reliability through the year 2035. Metropolitan knows that the tools needed to lower local demand and increase local supplies require a collaborative approach among water districts, local governments and all stakeholder groups.

2008 Stakeholder Forums Summary Report:

Feedback from the 2008 Stakeholder Forums was included in a working document, which served as a starting point for an in-depth series of IRP Technical Workgroups comprised of Metropolitan, its Member Agencies, and other experts. These workgroups: (1) analyzed the information gained from the Forums; (2) evaluated the major issues surrounding recycled water, groundwater, seawater desalination, stormwater, graywater, and conservation; (3) catalogued and verified existing projects; (4) hypothesized about potential development activities and projects in these areas; and (5) considered possible challenges to the implementation of proposed Plan recommendations.

Following the completion of the IRP Technical Workgroups, Metropolitan’s Board of Directors engaged in a detailed Strategic Policy Review that examined various roles for Metropolitan in future resource development and evaluated potential resource development alternatives from a technical standpoint including conducting a cost/rate differential review among the alternatives.
