- Additional screening mechanisms may be implemented in order to determine the applicant’s qualifications.
- Applicants who most closely meet the needs of Metropolitan will be invited to participate further in the selection process.
- Meeting the minimum qualifications is not a guarantee of advancement in the selection process.
- Reference checks will be conducted after the testing/interviewing of the final candidates.
- Background/security checks and medical assessment will be conducted, as appropriate.
How will I be notified of my status?
You will be notified of your status in the Selection Process by email or phone.
What types of assessments can I expect to encounter as part of the selection process?
Many different methods are used for assessing candidates for employment. They may include multiple choice tests, writing exercises, performance tests, work simulation, oral presentation exercises and panel interviews.
How can I do my best in an interview?
- Provide specific information about your background that indicates why you are the best qualified for the job.
- Listen carefully and respond directly to questions. Ask the interviewer to repeat or rephrase a question, if it is not clear.
- Be concise. Remember, you only have a limited period of time during the interview to present all your qualifications.
- Be specific and cite examples. General statements do not provide enough information regarding your qualifications.
For example:
Education: “I have a BA degree.” Your answer should be more specific – include school name, major, date, area of specialization and any certificate, and how it applies to the position you are seeking.
Work Experience: “I have five years of secretarial experience.” Again, your responses should be specific – include industry and work assignments such as word processing, mail distribution or screening phone calls. Avoid describing projects or assignments performed by a company, team, section or group. Specify your role and responsibilities related to that project.
- Be honest and be yourself.
Does MWD have a probationary period and how long does it last?
- Current employees who are promoted as the result of a promotional opportunity will be placed on a six-month probationary period upon assuming the new position.
- Newly hired employees must successfully complete a mandatory six-month probation.
