Professional and community activities:
Murray has served in various posts in the public sector, including as legislative deputy for state Sen. Nate Holden from 1976-77, and as chief of staff to Los Angeles City Councilman Robert Farrell from 1977-80. In 1991, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley appointed Murray as commissioner on the city’s Board of Public Works, where he served from 1991 to 1993. He was vice president for First Nationwide Bank from 1981 to 1991.
Murray is a member of the Central City Association, serving on the association’s executive policy committee and as chair of the government relations committee. From 1985 to 2006 he served as a personnel commissioner for the Los Angeles Unified School District. And, from 1991 to 1993 he served on the board of directors of the Rail Construction Corporation which was responsible for overseeing the design and construction of Blue Line, Green Line, and Red Line of the L.A. County light rail system.
Murray was senior vice president of U.S. Public Technologies an automated traffic enforcement company and senior manager with Lockheed Martin IMS and Affiliated Computer Services. Since 2002 he has been president of the Southern California Minority Business Development Council, Inc. since 2002.
